Depends on your other gear but assuming you don't have anything crazy going on, it should work fine with a 7870.

Need more info.

A 500W PSU will more than power a 7870 (on its own), the question is will it power everything else you have in the system at the same time.

Also let us know if you have any overclocking done on the system.

Pc specs

CPU-AMD fx8120 @ 3.1 ghz ( will not overclock for year or two or more)
ram 8gb 133mhz
motherboard - gigabyte 970a

PSU- cooler master thunder 500W

So will a 7870 run properly or will i have problems because if there are problems with 7870 and that PSU i will not buy it i will go for 7850 instead

Nope not over clocking a single thing and will not do in future

Yeah, I would think it'll run safely. If in doubt, just nab a SeaSonic 620w.

A lot of people fret about having enough room for their stuff when considering power supplies. I have been safely running a complete rig and an HD 7770 with a mere 450w. 500w may not be a huge gap from mine but it should compensate for the difference in our video cards by quite a lot, unless you are running more. However, always take our word with a grain of salt.

Most Cooler Master PSU's are trash, I blew one of their 460W units using a Radeon HD4770. My advice would be to go with the 7850. The 7870 might work at first but if your PSU dies it may take your motherboard and cpu with it...

I actually bought my whole rig from flipkart and i only got it 2k expensive than lamington road.
But i got a 30day replacement policy rather than 3days given my local shops.

BTW What resolution monitor do you use? I think it would be worth the wait for release of new AMD gpus?[Because prices of graphic cards dont fall in india ,7950 = 13000rs in us now lol :(  ... so it's best to wait for the new series]

For a 1080p monitor, anything less than 7870 isn't recommended

dude buy the 7870.. won't be prob.. check d specs of thunder 500.. it has 2 12v rails with a total of 45amps on +12v rails... so it will handle it no prob..

Also m using that same psu with my fx6300 oc@4.5ghz at 1.48v with 4gigs of ram oc@1500mhz with Powercolor 7870 myst edition card..running it no probs..

The HD 7870 will definitely work with the CM Thunder 500W PSU for now. The question is how long it will last? This PSU uses Jun Fu and CapXon capacitors both known to be NOT long lasting. Maybe for a year it will live max 3 years.

Idiot 2 +12V rails with 24A and 21A each does not mean 45A. It is not simple addition. It is 34A actually
