I purchased a Samsung 840 Pro 256GB to install in my Alienware M17 R3. I asked dell the same question and they say a clean install will make the ssd run at it's best. I would like to get some advice from this form.

Yes, I have a dual boot. I did have a OZC Vertex 3 256GB and they sent me a email saying I need to update the firmware and when I did it ruined the controller in the ssd drive and it will not work. I sent it back and waiting on a decision as to what they are going to do about it. Here on the forum I read some very good reviews about the Samsung 840 Pro and decided to install it instead. of the OCZ.

Although a clean install is the preferred method, cloning is viable provided your current windows installation, in its entirety, is small enough to fit on the SSD. Samsungs cloning program works well but pretty much only in AHCI mode.
