Hey guys.

Currently have a 1TB HDD and want to make the leap to SSD for OS bootup and Games mostly. A lot of people are saying to either go SSD/HDD or just Hybrid.

Well what about the SSD for OS and gaming folders.... and the Hybrid as my media/storage etc. Which would mean I could get away with a 64/128GB SSD for the OS and all Gaming files, and the Hybrid for the other 700GB+ of crap I have on here....

Anyone ever done this?

More about : ssd alongside hybrid

SSD, SSDD, HDD....Windows sees them as (mostly) the same. Just another drive.

Should be no problem running them all together.
If you get the SSD, a 64GB will be marginally too small. WAY too small if you plan on installing games on it.

Sweet thanks, I've seen a 300GB Kingston for £65 I was thinknig of getting, but didnt wanna get a hybrid if it would perform just the same as an SSD plus the HDD I have now :)

For mostly media files, the HDD is fine.

so you think I should try an SSD/HDD combo out for size? and then only bother with the SSHD if I need that little bit more speed?

Yes.

I have 2 x SSD and 2 x HDD in my main box.
For anything I want fast, it lives on an SSD. OS, applications, working files. Everything else, on an HDD.
In fact, music and movies lives on a whole other PC, accessible via mapped drives. For those things, instant access is not needed. I detect zero delay going through a playlist, accessing the next music file.

There's an offer on a 120gb I've had my eye on, I can pick up 2 for just over £120... What about Raid 0 on them for the OS, every game, and all program installs.... and keeping ALL media etc on the HDD?

Or cant you Raid 0 one set of SSD's and have the HDD as well? (Sorry I sound newb, I haven't used Raid in YEARS, let alone with 2 different types of drives)

Don't RAID the SSD's. You'll gain no performance increase, and you'll increase the fail potential.
If you can get two for that price, go for it. But just run them as separate drives.

I have my two set up as:
OS and applications on one, working docs on the other.

SSD's in raid 0 will actually slow you down some.

SSHD is pretty useless on a media drive. You cant control the ssd portion and it will only cache frequently read data. How often do you watch the same video? LoL (plus the ssd part is only typically 4 or 8gb)
