Installing OS on a new build, only have product key.
I found a good deal on Windows 8.1 and the title explains my situation. Just have the unused product key and no disk! Can I still use it?

I have a similar problem to the OP. I'm planning a new build and have way to get a free download of Windows 8.1 through my university. Is it possible to download the file to a USB and use that to install the OS on my new build?
Edit: Nevermind, this has been answered already. Sorry!

Only legal d'load links known to me...
Windows 8 Installation Media
As long as you have a new unused product key you won't need the discs. Go to microsofts website and download 2 things: 1)the iso file for whichever windows you need and 2)the usb downloader tool onto a thumb drive of at least 4GB. Stick in the thumb drive and boot from it through the UEFI settings and thats it.
Windows 8.1 will be released on October 18th.
