Hi, i recently bought an Intel i5 3570 (non k, i have a h61 mobo, not interested in overclocking). I installed it today, but when i went to turn it on, it booted for a second, turned off and then after 2 or 3 seconds.. it began to boot up again.

It will turn on, the fans will work and the lights on my case will work, but there is no display on the monitor, and when i plug in a mouse/keyboard.. they don't work.

Thinking that I maybe fried the mobo, i reinstalled my old cpu, and everything worked perfectly.

Do i need to update my BIOS? it says here on the manufactures website ( http://www.gigabyte.com/support-downloads/cpu-support-p... ) that it should be compatible. My old cpu (intel g840 and i5 3570 both require FD)..

Can anyone help me out on this?? really disappointed i couldn't install it today :(

heres my specs:
Gigabyte H61m-S2PV mobo
Intel G840 @ 2.8GHz
Gigabyte 660 TI OC
Corsair 600W PSU
8GB Ram

You should search your MB model on youtube and add the words BIOS update, and someone would likely have posted a video of what they're doing. I am not familiar with your board to know the procedure, and I haven't had a Gigabyte board in a long time. If we were talking about Asus, I could probably help you out...

Ugh, I've seen this SO many times. It is more than likely you ram. If it's a kit try removing one stick, they may be both or not defective. Your components will "move" but have not resources to "run." What is your ram, and is it new? I suggest updating the bios prior to testing the ram. Do you have speakers? Do they light up?

the mobo is rev 2.0, and it says on gigabytes website that both the 3570 and g840 require FD, which is what I have. I have 2x 4GB ram, which Is about two years old. I'm not sure what brand. I don't have any speakers, I use a headset instead, which also doesn't light up when plugged in with the new processor.

check that you use the mb stand offs and did not ground out the mb. on the mb there a four or eight pin power plug near the cpu or on the edge of the mb did you plug the power supply cables into it??

I'm assuming "I don't know what brand" is OEM stuff, so I doubt there is a warranty. Flash your bios, and is the 6 pin plug in the 660ti?

Yea I'd say they are OEM. should I flash, or update? (are they the same?) I'd rather not touch the BIOS because I heard it can be sort of risky, that's partly why I bought the processor. I thought I wouldn't have to touch the BIOS and it should be compatible, as it says on gigabytes website. and yes the 6 pin is connected to the 660ti. Is it possible that the processor is faulty? I'm using the old processor now and everythings running fine.

Truthfully, I'm just as worried as you. I'd look up a tutorial, or pay someone to do it. If it still doesn't work I'd put a pretty penny on that it's the ram.

I tried removing a stick of ram and the same thing happened, it's almost as if it doesn't like parts being removed/upgraded. Should I update the BIOS? and if it still doesn't work after that I'll get another processor?

could it be a problem with the motherboard? after I installed my 660 ti it's taken longer to boot..
