blu ray to plasma hdmi to dvi

I have a blu ray player that I'm trying to connect to an old plasma television. The television only has a DVI input, so I got an HDMI to DVI cord and the TV does not recognize the input, or any input for that matter. Is there a step that I'm missing in all of this?

Not sure what you mean by "not recognizing any input" but the output of the bluray is probably not set correctly for the TV. You will need to know the native resolution of the TV (should be in the manual or found online). Connect the bluray to another TV or with another type of output to the TV and set it to this output resolution and make also sure that the HDMI is turned on.
When you use HDMI to HDMI the two devices do this but with DVI it won't.
