I would like to know whether g2120 is better than pentium d 2.8ghz in the terms of overall gaming
performance.
Currently i am using pentium D 820 2.8ghz but i am upgrading to g2120. Is it a good choice. Moreover I will be playing games at low-medium settings

Solution
True. I think the 43 and 45 chipsets did support it. But still your looking at like a 5% of all 775 socket motherboards if that would have those chipsets.
Yea the D 820 doesn't even have a GPU on it it uses Chipset Graphics which is probably anything from a 910 to a to an X45 Series chipset. And if its anything below a 925 Windows 7 Doesn't even support it. If its a P31 or higher it will have so so but nothing for gaming. But i'm sure you have an addin card. The G2120 is a more powerful CPU as well BUT that G2120 WILL NOT WORK IN YOUR SAME MACHINE! You will have to build a whole new machine around the G2120 and if your gonna do that you might as well go all out. Honestly not really worth the money if you just want to upgrade the CPU. If thats the case I'd find out what 775 Socket CPU's your motherboard can support (Core 2 Duo and/or Core 2 Quad) and get a used one. Otherwise you might as well upgrade everything.

You need new DDR3 RAM, a new motherboard(I recommend AM3+), You need a new CPU(I recommend FX 6300), You should get a new case too unless you already have a good one, A new power supply so you can get a fairly decent graphics card(I recommend a corsair 750TX powersupply and HD 7950 graphics card.) You also will need a new operating system such as Windows 8. Also I recommend you get a new hard drive because even though you can reuse an old one hard drives are prone to failure and are more likely to fail the longer you use them.

This will be expensive. I can't say how much it'll all cost because I don't know what currency you use or prices in your country.

ummm theonerm i have ddr3 memory ram and my hard disk is also new and i also have graphics card. So i only need to change motherboard and CPU right??? I am from India my currency is indian national rupees. So can u now tell the expense for this

If you have DDR3, hard drive, Case PSU, and CD/DVD rom drive then yes thats all you really need. Now this DDR3 you have. You just have this right? Because its not what is running in your PC with the Pentium D. But yea the Pentium D is like 7 Generations of CPU's ago lol. Its like 2005-2006. Also if your drive is not a SATA drive (Uses a small cable to connect to the motherboard) but instead a PATA drive (Thin WIDE cable make up of a bunch of little ones) The you have to be careful what you choose. If it doesn't have an IDE then you can't use them. Either way if it was a PATA hard drive i'd just get a new SATA drive to begin with. Gezz i wouldn't even use the existing hard drive if it was he orginal hard drive that came in the PC.

What is the voltage on that DDR3? You might have to either go FX or buy new ram if the voltage is too high. Intel is picky in this regard.
