I'm assuming this build will do for awhile. But I was just wondering if I could get suggestions to improve the build, or bring the price down some.

More about : decent gaming rig 1500

A couple things, you want a 990FX motherboard, and also you should wait a couple weeks for AMD's new cards to release and look at their cost to performance ratio, and also they will likely cause a price drop of current cards

I did an overhaul on your build to get you a much higher performing rig.

For one, the i7-4770k far outperforms the 8350. It is the new Haswell architecture and the board is the Z87 chipset.

I got you a higher clocking memory with the same storage space and two modules to take advantage of your dual channels.

I added an SSD for you to load your operating system on and any programs that require fast read/write times (video editing programs for example).

While CrossFire is a cool feature, it isn't really worth the extra money. The general rule is that you get the GPU you have and 50% of the CrossFire GPU (this is true with SLI as well). Instead of CrossFire, I just got you one really good card for slightly more than your original build.

I changed out the case because the number one rule in gaming is COOLING. This full tower will give you the maximum room for airflow amongst all your components (not just your CPU).

I also changed your power supply to a Tier 2a PSU that will give you what you need, no more no less.

Hey bud. How about making the rig that i am going to make?
BE AWARE THAT I ONLY HAVE 1 7950 but since you have a higher budget i made it crossfire for you.

This things a beast. Feel free to change the OS AND CASE but other than that its a beast.

for the OP, this is what id get instead
http://ca.pcpartpicker.com/p/1JVE9

-the i5 performs better period. can be price matched at ncix
-much better CPU cooler. its 59.99 at ncix
-you dont need 16gb of ram unless you are editing. ram can be price matched
-SSD will improve boot times and loading times drastically. can be price matched at ncix
-hard drive can be price matched
-no stupid triple slot cooling. if you can wait, the r9 290x or r9 290 will be coming out next week. if you want to hold off on the GPU, id do so
-dont really need 850w
-just pick the cheapest dvd drive

this one is actually pretty medicore id say

-the cooler is crap. the cooling performance is mediocre and the installation is a total joke
-thermal paste isnt needed when most of the included stuff is better than silver 5. (assuming you have a proper cooler in the first place)
-the gigabyte boards are better for the money
-no SSD cripples the rig
-there are way better cases for cheaper. the arc midi r2 is a much better option than a no name
-way better psus for 10 bucks more
-windows 8

This is a better build. The CPU cooler is fine, I don't know why you are fighting over that. Liquid cooling should only be an issue when overclocking, which this i7 will work for years without needing to overclock. It has an SSD. The GeForce 770 will be better or at least match whatever AMD is coming out with.

Why are all still going on about these coolers? He doesn't need them. The 212 EVO is all he needs. No need in putting the money in a $60 cooler.

so what? if your fan needs to run at max rpm while cooling the overclock, how is it much better than the stock cooler? the purpose of an aftermarket cooler is to drop the noise and drop the temps.

i agree and i want the phantek but it will block the view of the side panel. so the zalman is good and fast, cool and it drops temps

actually, no because the zalman cools worse than the hyper 212 evo, takes 4x as long to mount due to the craptastic mounting system of bolts and wrenches, and it costs 2x as much as an evo

Do you know ANY good RED LED Cases with ALL stock fans RED???? GIVE IT A BREAK! You just made it clear that you are trolling. Find a good case for that price that has red LEDS and Fans, if you do, send me the link. This case is good quality!

given the fact that you determine the quality of a case solely based on the colour, i have no reason to help you. go ahead with your purchase, but if you find a floppy side panel or no useable cabling space in the back, not my fault that you are ignoring the facts

there is no reason for a moderator to troll.

Its not about the color. But what is a good case that has lots of Red LED stock fans?

none because no case maker in their right mind loads their cases with LED fans. and if they do, either the case is low quality or the fans are low quality or both.

again, the arc midi is the best value for the money. if you want to load it with LEDs, its your call. id recommend 2 15cm strip of bitfenix alchemy LEDs and a 1 15cm strip of bitfenix alchemy white LEDs so it doesnt look stupidly washed out

it looks pretty much the same. if you are to load the thing with LEDs, forget it unless you buy the window version. and if you buy the windowed version, you are basically buying the arc midi all over again since the window takes up all the space where padding will be
