Hi
I am looking to upgrade my Computer with a better proccesor.
I play lots of Games and I record and edit videos for my Youtube channel.
I understand you don't need the best CPU for most games but in order to upgrade to a better GPU I need a better CPU otherwise it will be bottle necked.

Here Are My PC Specs:
CPU: Intel i3 3220
GPU(Graphics card): GTX 660
MOTHERBOARD: B75PRO3-M
RAM: 8GB
PSU: Corsair CX600

That is all the main stuff and I think that would really be what matters.
I was thinking of getting an i5 but I am not sure of which one to get.
Any suggestions will be great!
Thanks

From my point of view, if you really want an upgrade the proc without changing the mobo, the best upgradein my opinion is E3-1230V2.
It is an i7 3770 without the iGPU and only as expensive or has about the same price as i5 3570k.
E3-1230V2 is the hidden budget diamond in Intel processors line.

Several other alternatives will be i5 3570, i5 3470 or i7 3770,depending on your budget and need.

Ok thankyou for your reply, do you think I should get a new mother board or that I will be fine getting the E3-1230V2 and sticking with the same motherboard. Will the E3-1230V2 processor be fine with a GPU like the GTX 780 or something like that. Will that be enough for gaming and editing videos and stuff

No need to change the mobo to get the E3-1230V2 running but perhaps you will need BIOS update for that.
I checked already at the manufacturer website, your mobo should support the processor with the latest BIOS.
No problems with dedicated GPU like GTX780.
It is enough for your gaming need and normal photo and video editing.

ok thanks for your answer, I think I will get the Xeon E3-1230V2 soon and then I will buy a better GPU next year some time. What do you recommend for an upgrade to replace my gtx 660. I dont mind if its AMD or Nvidia just whatever is better for the price and I dont want to spend too much maybe up to $300-$400. The prices will probably drop by next year but just to get an idea.
Thanks for your help!

For the GPU update is a bit tricky.
I still do not have enough yet for the coming AMD and nVidia GPUs yet.
How the perform compared to our current ones on the market and also the prices.
I dunno also how the new GPUs will influence current GPUs yet.
GTX780 would be a very nice update for your GTX660, but the price is still too high in my opinion
I guess wait and see until then.

Care to consider HD7970, just in case if you want to do the update now?

Ok well I think i will just get the Xeon E3-1230V2 some time this month and then I will see next year what GPU is right for me.
The GTX 660 at the moment is fine for me as I can run any game at high settings and I dont mind too much if I can't play it at the highest settings just as long as i can play it.
Also will having a better CPU make recording games easier, like it wont bring down the fps as much or something. Like will I get better FPS with the Xeon E3-1230V2 than I would of with the i3 3220 when recording?
Thanks alot for your help!

The FPS in games you will get from E3-1230V2 should be more than i3 3220 (GPU plays also role tho').
The FPS would be somewhere near like on i5 3570. Most games today still can not make use of more cores efficiently.

The FPS on recording should be also more as long as the recording software can use the cores (E3-1230V2 is like having 8... physical 4, virtual/HT 4) more efficiently. (same goes for editing and rendering).
FPS in recording also depends on the camera, if it is already limited and running max on i3 3220, then there will be no effect on the new proc.

Ok well I use fraps to record will fraps take advantage of the extra cores or not. Not sure if you will know this stuff
