Hello everyone, I am using a WD passport (regular, not slim, mac version, etc..) A few days ago, I noticed that when I plugged in my drive, the security feature that I enable would not show up and prompt me for a passport before allowing access to the drive. I found that I was able to directly access the drive and that the data on the disk was corrupted. I tried using the WD Utilities that came with the drive, yet it said please attach a WD supported drive. I went to my mac and found that not only was it able to detect the drive, it was able to reformat it etc. When I reformatted it, it disappeared from my mac and when I plugged it into my pc, the drive was not detected at all. I have all drivers and software installed, yet I don't understand why I am having this problem. Any ideas?
Quick note, I am using WIN8

External hard drives are very fickle devices and more prone to give trouble, and I think it's true to say that the failure rate for external hard drives is far higher than for internal ones. I would test it with WD's Diagnostic Windows version before doing anything else with it. Data LifeGuard Diagnostic for Windows is here: http://support.wdc.com/product/download.asp?groupid=203...

Note: ignore the Passport model shown on the download page. Data LifeGuard Diagnostic can be used to test any WD hard drive.

Well....Tried doing the quick test and it said: Too many bad sectors. I believe this is still under manufacturer warranty, not amazon warranty. I've heard so many bad stories about manufacturer RMA. Are there any solutions to this before I RMA?
