Hi Everyone,

I am a newbie when it comes to computers and graphics. I just built my first computer to run basically FSX as well as basic office functions (Word Processing, Internet Browsing, etc) and maybe some other games. The important specs are below:

CPU - AMD A10-6800K 4.1GHz Quad Core
GPU - Sapphire Vapor-X Radeon HD 7950
PSU - Corsair 500W CX500M
MOBO - ASRock FM2A75 Pro4 ATX FM2
RAM - Crucial Ballistix 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1866

I also only use the add-on Aircraft Airbus Extended X. When I am flying with everything on high setting, I max out around 24 fps in the Virtual Cockpit. I have not done any tweaks to the FSX config file or changed any anti-aliasing or other graphic effects.

Basically my question is could my CPU be bottlenecking my GPU? I have heard a lot about Intel being the best processor for FSX as it is CPU heavy and less-so on the GPU. I am willing to upgrade to a new MOBO and Intel CPU if need be but I was just thinking that, if others thought that my PC Specifications looked good, I would try to play around with the settings, tweaking the FSX config, and all that fun stuff. Does anyone think I should be getting better framerate on the basic settings considering those specs?

Thanks for your input. Anything is helpful!

Cheers,

Paul

I do need to know a budget. As for multi-tasking and budget related options AMD would be the way to go, just get a FX processor (which i can help you pick out) and a motherboard to match and you will have one sweet machine.

Well my budget would be about $350 for a new processor and motherboard. I already have the above computer built and it is a nice build and runs well but just want to get better fps. I was thinking maybe an i5-3570K and an ASRock z77 mobo.

I also should add that I recently tried to run Eyefinity with 2 x 20" monitors (1900 x 600 each) and I ended up getting about 20-25 fps both when the internal FSX frame limiter was set to 35 and unlimited. When I am using one 20" monitor at 1900 x 600, I get upwards of 60 fps. Additionally, when I use a 1080p HDTV and run it through that, it runs around 25 fps as well. I have seen people getting much better fps on a 1080p with the same graphics card as I am running so I am assuming it is the processor?

Cheers,

Paul

A10's are not meant for gaming, well in a sense. The better choice would be the i5 and the ASrock z77 motherboard suggestion that you recommended. It will work better for gaming and what you are trying to do with it very nicely. I hope this helps and please remember to pick your best solution so that others might learn from your questions.
