So I just did a clean install of windows 7 ultimate 64 bit on an ssd. I already have an hdd running the same with an active version of windows. I go to put in the same key on the ssd and I get error code 0xc004e003. Is it possible to deactivate windows on my hdd so i can activate it on my ssd?

You can only use one copy of Windows on 1 build at a time. All you need to do is delete Windows on the hard drive. As long as you have the same motherboard you should be fine. If you have any activation errors then you can use the phone activation.

It would be best to format the hard drive and start over with it. Otherwise you may see issues with both drives thinking they are the C: drive.

Problem is even when the HDD isn't plugged in I'm getting this error code and can't activate windows. I just don't want to delete everything without windows activated on the ssd unless that is what will solve the problem.

Unplug the hard drive and try the phone activation. It should work then plug in the mechanical drive and format it to blow away the old Windows install. Then you are all good.
