Basically, I have a Linksys EA4500 router that is connected to my modem at the moment. Now, I have a family of 5 & the 3 kids have iTouch's, laptops, etc. & I do as well, including my iPad & X-Box. That puts strain on the network, correct, & makes it run slower? I have Comcast.

What I want to do is setup another router I have (Netgear N 300 WNR2000 v3) just for me for my X-Box & PC...can I do that so it won't put strain on the 2nd router if only I will be using it? Thank-you.

P.S.- I did post in Networking forum, but it's not super active

Setting up another router won't give anything extra.

1. In a home setting, one and only one router does router stuff. On the Netgear, you'd have to turn most of it off anyway, and it would just be a 'switch'.
2. Everything flows through the Linksys anyway. That is what is serving up the DHCP.
3. Everything flows out the one pipe to Comcast.

It wont help because it will be the same internet connect, the bandwitdh will still be affected..what you could do it's to setup the QoS/Priority in the Linksys SmartWiFi so your laptop and xbox have better connection..

Not sure what speed I'm paying for, but here's a test with my PC, X-Box, iPhone, & iPad on the network:

Then same server retest:

Yeah, money is tight everywhere. But trying to squeeze that many devices down a 20Mbps pipe is almost certainly the cause of any lag or slowness you may be experiencing.
