Hello I am in desperate need of help i am really worried
My GPU radeon 6970 HD XFX edition has been reaching very dangerous temperatures since the upgrade
I have recently brought a motherboard bundle, new power supply and a much better case with 4 fans 1 to the back 1 to the front and 2 at the sides
I've brought a new power supply a 750 W OCZ cause i thought that my 600 W PSU is not enough for this build but the new power supply changed nothing please help

My old build :
My old case cant remember the name but it only had 2 fans
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8350 2.5 Ghz
4 GB DDR2 ram
Radeon 6970 HD XFX 2GB
OCZXSTREAM 600W PSU
1TB HDD

My new build :
New Case > Zalman Z11 with 4 built in fans
AMD Fx 8320 3.5 Ghz eight cores
16 GB DDR3 1300 MHZ
Radeon 6970 HD XFX 2GB
1TB HDD
and a brand new PSU that i got today cause i thought it would fix the issue
OCZ ZS SERIES 750 W 80 Bronze plus PSU

Could it be that the GPU is faulty ?
Or is something else at fault here ?

Also bear in mind that GPU's are (technically) 'safe' up to 90 degrees centigrade. But at that point most GPU's shut themselves off anyway to prevent damage.

My GPU's genrally hit 75-80 degrees when under full load, and I'm not worried about it.

Ok really sorry
Well the GPU idles at 40 C but on 45% fan speed which is loud and not normal for it to be this hot with that fan speed
In games for example shogun 2 I have to run the GPU at 50% fan speed which is VERY loud just to keep the temp 85-90 C
The reason am worried is that i brought a MUCH better case with better airflow and more fans i also got a new power supply and i applied fresh new thermal paste to the GPU still not helping is it really the GPU that is faulty ?

1 more thing before upgrade with my old case and old stuff I never had to put my fan speed so high and the temps never went higher than 80-85 and back then i was running the GPU on 30% fan speed

Well, even though it's loud, 50% is a very low fan speed for those temps. I'd put up with the noise for a while and try running the fans at 100% and see what temps you get then. My 670's idle at 35C on 30% fan, but when they hit 70C I run my fans at 80%. (For some reason cant get them to run over 80% =P)

No the point of this question is why do i have to put the fan speed so high when i never had to do before and the temps get really high if i dont
and over 50% it sounds like a freaking jet its too loud this never happened before upgrade i

Okay, I get what your on about. =)

Well, it could be down to any number of factors. I noticed that you have a bigger PSU in your new build, this will generate more heat (Especially as it has more powerful hardware to power), and as it sits below the GPU this heat will pass into the GPU.

Are you sure you have your fans oriented for the best push/pull flow?

I ahve the same case as you, and I have about 11 fans now in mine, (I installed 4 fans more than the case can handle using cable ties XD) and my temps are fine due to having the right sort of air flow. =)

As far as your GPU fan being loud, you could try applying a little oil to the bearings. Not too much though obviously. Alternatively, the cooler could jsut be knackered and so maybe you should think of investing in an aftermarket cooler, such as an Arctic Cooling Acellero cooler?

Greb i noticed something very odd because i just installed the new PSU i only tested Sims 3 and what i found out is that Sims 3 doesnt have a V sync option and the frame rates go crazy high and it could be cause of those temps give me few minutes mate am gonna check it with fraps

Is the PSU blowing warm/hot air on to the graphics card and does the cpu give out any hot air.

I had my card and cpu heating up by quite a bit, i installed closed loop water cooling for just my cpu and it has lowered the temperature for the system overall and also made the gpu temperature fall a bit as well.

Water cooling is out of question i cannot do water cooling but i shouldnt have to have water cooling since i brought a much better case with more fans and better airflow its impossible that the GPU is heating up more in a new better case than in the old and crappy one including the power supply and fresh new thermal paste
