Hello everyone,

I have the Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3 motherboard and i am looking to change the processor that i am using at the moment but i can't seem to find anywhere that tells me if it will work or not.

At the moment i am using the AMD-FX6 6100 AM3+

I am looking to upgrade to the AMD-FX8-8320 Black Edition Vishera 8 Core AM3+

Can anyone help me please?

Thank you.

Yes, that CPU should work fine. Here is the CPU support list for your MB, revision 1.0.

http://www.gigabyte.us/support-downloads/cpu-support-popup.aspx?pid=4122

If the first revision of your MB will handle that CPU, the newer revisions will surely handle it too. The list says that BIOS F6 is needed so check your BIOS version and update it if needed. For peace of mind you can go to "gigabyte.us" and search for your MB at the top right and check out the CPU support list for what ever revision you have.

FX 8300 (max supported by this board) is also 95W.
Some lower models are 125W. It makes some difference in heat ouput and power consumption. You would need better cooler to keep the temps on the same level as for 95W CPU.
