I'm looking to buy an i5 3570k with a GIGABYTE GA-Z77-D3H - 1155 Socket - Z77 Chipset - ATX.

This is my current rig:
1 Terabyte Hard Disk
Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit
Benq 18.5 LED Monitor
Nvidia GeForce 2GB GTX660Ti
AMD FX 4100 - 4 Cores - 3.6Ghz
8GB DDR3 1333Mhz Memory
Antec 520w High Current Gamer Power Supply

Taking away the AMD processor, would the i5 and motherboard be compatible with my rig?

Welcome to Tom's!
Possibly. You may have issues with your ram (not working in new MB) and will probably have to at least do a repair install of windows as the MB drivers will be different. Depending on what type of license you have for Windows (OEM or full Retail) you may need to purchase a new license.

While not likely, it could simply not be compatible with your new motherboard, (Wrong speed, timings, or voltage) if it is not compatible, then the rest of the build won't work either. You can look 2 places to check compatibility, the QVL for the new MB will have a list of RAM modules that the manufacturer has tested in that MB, or the RAM manufacturer will have a list of boards that it has tested its RAM in. If your RAM is on either list, then you should be good to go. If not, it simply means that no one has tested that ram in that motherboard. Basiclly, if it boots, it should work, you might have to tweak timings and such in the BIOS for maximum performance.
