directx function "getdeviceremoved" failed DXgI_ERROR_Device_hung device hung due to badly reason formed commands.. GPU: AMD Radeon HD 7770, Driver 12.10

Something along those lines anyway. I've cleaned up my registery with CCleaner, defragmented my harddrive, scanned and removed malware with malware bytes, updated all of my drivers with Slimdrivers... But the game stil runs perfectly fine for about 10 minutes and then it freezes, and I have to alt+tab out of the program to get to the task manager to close it. The error message actually gets stuck behind the program when it freezes, I saw it while alt+tabbing through my open programs. I can't click on it to get it to stay up on the screen for a screenshot either so that's why I had to type it out.

Any help please? My computer has trouble running any game I give it at the moment. From New Vegas to Battlefield to The Sims they ALWAYS crash and freeze. My speccs are up to date to run the game. When I'm in game it runs flawlessly on whatever preset settings the game gives me, which I believe are on the higher end. I do only have 4GB of RAM and a Celeron CPU, which is clearly quite old and underpowered but I am able to run some games with it like Civilization V. So I don't think it's a hardware issue. I'm also running Windows 8 64bit which I upgraded to from Windows 7 Home 64bit.

::EDIT:: Got an actual screenshot of the error this time, and it looks different from before. See next post for image, can't edit it into this one for some reason.

Go to the Battlefield 3 folder, "Installers", there should be DirectX somewhere. Install it, it seems like you have an outdated DirectX installation or something along those lines.

Update your drivers as well.

Thanks for the feedback guys, I've already tried reinstalling Directx via that installation folder in the Battlefield files sorry, I forgot to mention that. I went ahead and tried it once more anyway just incase and nope, this time it crashed and froze almost instantly. Like I said in my OP my drivers are up to date as far as I know. I tried checking for updates via slimdrivers regardless and nothing came up. I even uninstalled my AMD and display drivers through the Device Manager in the Control Panel and it doesn't really seem like they uninstalled. Nothing really changed or happened, and slimdrivers is still telling me they're up to date.

It's all very confusing but I really appreciate the support! Any other ideas I might be able to try?

::EDIT:: Got an actual screenshot of the error this time, and it looks different from before.
::EDIT 2:: Another update, I just played for about an hour or two completely alright and uninterrupted before it crashed this time. All I did prior to this attempt was download the driver auto-detector from AMD's site and it checked my hardware and made sure it was up-to-date, which I guess it wasn't since it did install a crap load of stuff. Now I'm back to freezing every 5-10 minutes again however. Last 5 attempts ended that way.

Okay, despite having already installed it, please follow these instructions including installing it again, just to make sure it starts with fresh settings.

Re-install DirectX under the "Installers" in Battlefield 3 folder.
Delete the "Settings" folder under Documents\Battlefield 3\
Delete everything inside the temporary folder: C:\Windows\Temp. Do NOT delete the Temp folder itself, only its contents!

You'll have to re-configure Battlefield in-game settings, I hope that's not an issue?

Alrighty, just finished trying to install it again and this time I got an error. It told me to check my windows folder for the error log, and I found a notepad file labeled "DirectX." Inside was the following (note I did cut out the majority of the file. I only copied the text that appeared to corresspond with today's date, as the vast majority of the rest of the file has to do with earlier dates):

Not an expert or anything but it looks like it can't install because my version of directx is newer, or something along those lines. Any ideas? I've googled how to uninstall directx but it sounds rather confusing.

Okay, I continued with the steps and attempted playing and it crashed within 5 minutes again. =( This is really looking hopeless. Though I do have something to note, when I initially tested the game this time I neglected to play immediately. I left the game sitting for about 20 minutes and it neither froze nor crashed it was perfectly fine. This seemed to reinforce an earlier theory I had that perhaps I am just stressing the GPU or CPU too hard and it's causing directx errors, or you know something like that if what I said doesn't make sense. But upon further investiagtion it would see that is not the case. This time while playing I piloted a tank on Caspain Border for roughly 5 minutes, until the game crashed. I didn't fire, see anyone, nothing was really happening on screen or around me. I did get fired on though. Idk what hit me, but it brought my HP down to 39%, and then almost immediately after it crashed.

So perhaps my hypothesis isn't completely incorrect, though I believe it very unlikely as during the attempt in which I played for approximately an hour and a half I was engaged with 31 players on Metro, and there was constant explosions and gunfire the whole time. For some reason it took a lot longer for directx to screw up that time.

The objective is to really put some stress on it. Run it for 2 mins just to make sure it doesn't reach dangerous temperatures, then leave it running for like half an hour or more to see if it crashes.

If it crashes, most likely a faulty PSU or GPU.

Also, what's your PSU?

SeaSonic 300W 80 PLUS Bronze Certified ATX12V Power Supply

I had to buy an adapter to actually be able to use the GPU with the PSU. I think we may have found our problem. Well, my problem, haha. In regards to the stressing of the GPU though, I ran it for 2 minutes at 1080 with full AA in fullscreen mode and despite some stuttering here and there the heat fluctuated between 60 and 70. Mostly hovered around the 65 mark though. I'm continuing to run it as we speak, it's been on for about 10 minutes now and it's still hovering in the mid to high 60's for temp. I'll get back to you in a bit after it's ran for a full half an hour or more.

The problem is almost definitely the PSU.

Attempt to run Prime95 in Small FFTs while also running the GPU benchmarker.

What we want here is to make both the CPU and the GPU use the maximum power they can, to really put some stress on the PSU. Battlefield 3 is heavy on both CPU and GPU, which may be putting as much stress as these two benchmarkers.

Alright, I'm about to download Prime and run the two benchmarkers. Just a question, would I be able to just lower the settings of BF3 by, say, reducing the resolution in order to stop the GPU from drawing more power? Is the problem, do you think, that the GPU and CPU is drawing too much power and that when it draws for more the PSU can supply Directx crashes?

::EDIT:: Alright I've had them both running for about 10 minutes now. Nothing really out of the ordinary. Although I'm not entirely sure if Prime is running. On the task manager my CPU is being like 99% used by Kombuster and Prime is only using around .5-3% of the CPU.

::EDIT2:: Eventually Prime began using 80-90% of my CPU usage as I've left it on for about 2 hours now. Still no crashes or anything of that sort. I'll paste the results up to this point that were displayed under "Worker 2-Self Test" window:

Okay, it's not the PSU, otherwise it would've crashed since two benchmarkers need more power than BF3.

Try and get the drivers directly from AMD's website instead of using Slimdrivers, although I'm not sure if it'll help at all.

Run memtest86 overnight (it doesn't produce almost any heat, so don't worry about overheating components), let's see if it's the RAM, although RAM issues usually lead to bluescreens.

I'll try looking for the drivers again, though I did go straight to AMD's website during one of my previous posts and I downloaded the auto-detector and installer from them. It found outdated drivers and patched them up for me, and that's when BF3 ran for like an hour and a half without any problems whatsoever. At the end of that hour and a half though it did crash, and ever since then I've been unable to play for more than 5 or 10 minutes again.

Like I said though, I'll try, and then I'll run memtest86 while I'm out today, and then update my post accordingly.

::EDIT:: Sorry for getting back to you so late, been busy these past couple of days. I'm running memtest now, so I'll have to update you again when it's finished. I just wanted to add one bit of information as well before we get the results of the memory. Whenever the game crashes, the audio loops. I searched for more info on this and apparently there've been others with similar issues which were fixed by messing with audio drivers and speaker properties. I tried some of the obvious ones like updating my drivers, getting Realtek and updating it to it's latest drivers, as well as trying an outdated version that fixed somebody else's problems. Nothing really worked though, but I thought maybe you or someone else might have more ideas.
