Hey guys so I have a question. I bought a 8GB (2 x 4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR 1600mhz) set and in windows it says 7.99GB. Is this normal or can there be something wrong?

I have a EVGA Classified3 X58 motherboard. Maybe the ram sticks are not not compatible with my mobo? Or is this something I shouldn't really worry about?

Solution
1.7V is kinda high. Standard is 1.5 Low is 1.35 and a normal high is 1.65. It could be an XMP profile thing.
_
Also the 796mhz is normal. DDR stands for Double Data Rate. So in what they call a cycle or a Tick Tock it it looks like _| | The _| is the Tick or Half a cycle and the other part is the Tock or the Second cycle. Back in the day of SDRam or Single Data Rate it could only get 1 Bit of data in a cycle. So now with DDR they can get in two bits per cycle. Now the DRAM Frequency is the 800mhz BUT because it can get in 2 bit per cycle it running...
Most likely the BIOS is saving like 1 or 8 megs something super tiny for some other service which is most likely why you see 7.99. I know the X58 doesn't have any onboard graphics but i know with older PC with onboard graphics you can set it to 1 or 8 megs so you'll see like the 7.99 your talking about. Don't really know much about the Classified 3 that much but I'm sure its saving part of the memory for other motherboard functions. Its not uncommon.

I thought about that too but when I had 6GB, Windows showed the full amount and not 5.99. I also just noticed my ram timings were way off and the voltage was at 1.7v!! I manually changed them but in CPU-Z, the DRAM frequency is at 796mhz and not 1600mhz. I'm not sure if that's normal or not?

But yea its nothing to worry about. I see it happen often. Its not a big deal. its like sometime you will see the CPU which is a what ever at 2.4 GHZ but it might say like Core 2 Due E4600 2.4 @ 2.39 . Its not quite exact but they still sell it as a 2.4

Awesome thanks for your info guys. I'll just leave as it is since my PC is running stable anyway. Just wanted to make sure there was nothing wrong with the ram I bought :p
