Hey everyone, first time poster here.

I'm far from a pro at this stuff and looking for some advice/answers on my external hard drive situation. I have a respectable amount of music that I like to use on my laptop (~250GB range) and have found that keeping it off my computer's hard drive and on a separate external makes for much better performance.

However, I've used a Seagate and a couple Lacie portable external hard drives that I've been extremely unsatisfied with. My current one is a Lacie Rugged Triple 3.0 USB (http://www.lacie.com/us/support/support_manifest.htm?pid=11640), and it looks like it's recently crapped out again for the 3rd time (I'm getting that clicking noise when I plug it in). This would be yet another failure if it really is broken, and my other major issue with this is how the USB plugs into the external drive itself. The 3.0 connection is extremely flimsy and even a very light touch by the finger on the USB cord will disconnect the USB cord from the external drive. This has happened with multiple Lacie externals that I've used and I'm wondering if anyone has a good solution for this? I have a MacBook so unfortuantely there's no firewire and I'm forced to use the USB 3.0 connection. I feel like the Firewire connection might hold in there more firmly?

Any advice or suggestions would be great. Thank you everyone!
