Hello dear forum.

This is damn awkward.

I'v got myself win 8 ultrabook a month ago, finally, i'v bought an ssd for it and istalled win 7 straight away, since i prefer win7 for work since this ultrabook is for studying/work. SO, the HDD i have taken out of it is Hitachi's 500gb big one so i guess why not using it as a additional storage in my home theatre pc, BUT the system doesn't recognise it[tried to "initialize" it through diskmgmt.msc got nothing]. Although it is seen by Bios pretty correct notihin' unusual.

So, i'm not sure, is it smth connected with that the hdd is QPT formatted or what so ever that "new" or not new or whatever came with win 8 and now everything isn't comptaible and doesn't work or so, that's why i have chosen to ask You all Forum.

Subject im talking about is HTS545050A7E380.

And the question is: How can i get it to work as a storage hdd on win 7 pc considering the fact that it was taken out from win 8 laptop so it's file format is QPT and that might be one of the reasons for my issue.

MY biggest thanks to everyone who could help me.

Respect.

yeah, lol, GPT not qpt, fail :D

I think you talk about the GPT format not that QPT, usually win8 use the HDD in GPT format. Wnen you use that HDD for storage, then it will be used like the removable media/HDD, and the removable media must be MBR format that why you can't use it. If you don't care the data on that HDD, you can convert it to the MBP format.
Here is how to convert GPT to MBP format. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/26203-convert-gpt-...

I would just delete the partitions until its all unallocated and then rt click in the part that says unallocated and lft click on New Simple Volume. This will start the install a new drive wizard, dont forget to format the drive when it asks to.

edit - before you start, have you created your win8/factory restore disks?
I imagine at some point you might want to revert this back to Factory and sell it.

I saw the disk 1 is uninitialized. Right-click the left box of the drive, where the label is, and click "Initialize Disk" , then click the MBR, and format the HDD.

Try to use other USB port, or go to Microsoft and check the link.

Because usually causes of I/O (Input/Output) device errors are driver based. If you reboot or clean boot that will let the PC reinstall the driver.

But anyway, I though you add the HDD by USB port.

Now try update the chipsets driver If you have intel system https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?Dwnld... If you have AMD system ( 700 series or newer AMD chipsets ) http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/rai...

I did this for one of my friend, I called this is the last chance: put this HDD into the PC, only this HDD + DVD driver, if you have win7 DVD disc, do the installation, if you can install the win7 on it, then the HDD will be OK, other wise the HDD is broken.

Essentially yea, it is faulty drive, got error 0x80007045d at Partition creating stage, i remembered when i bought this ultrabook, and have used it for a few days, i remember "ticks", yeah, the death ones, the ones that hdd make when it is going to die soon, well, im not surprised, another shitty hitachi drive brand new - and dead allready, phah, thank god i have bought myself ssd after a few days of using ultrabook with win8 and that faulty hdd.
Thanks for the "win instalation" idea mate. Cheers
