Ok so what is your maximum cost and do you want anything special?

My maximum cost is probably about £200-£250. Ideally I would like a pentium processor but I am willing to go AMD if it's a reliable one.

well if you want to take advantage of PCI 3.0 lanes, you should get intel's Ivybridge or Haswell based processors. Ivybridge will be cheaper as its older, but the performance gains from Ivybridge to Haswell is minimal and not worth the extra money at this time. I don't know what availability or pricing is like in the UK but for gaming (and with the sweet 670 2gb you have) I would recommend the I5 3570k. Motherboards for 1155 ivybridge are also going down in price, so finding a mobo/cpu combo for cheap should be pretty easy. I wouldn't recommend amd, they don't have pci 3.0 or usb 3.0 yet. Also, ivybridge can handle ridiculously fast ram, I have mine running 2400mhz ram at cas 10. I can see ivybridge being relevant for the next 5-8 years, so getting slightly older hardware shouldn't concern you. plus its cheaper.

hope this helped, if I knew a target budget I could get more specific.

Also what are you planning to do? Just gaming or work such as 3d work?

Cheers for the answers guys. I currently have a Intel Quad core q6600 @2.4Ghz, 2GB Ram and a ECS-G31T-M motherboard. My GPU is currently a AMD Radeon 6450HD 1GB

I mainly want it for gaming although I have got the Unreal development kit and may have a crack at that. :)

So you will need ram as well for your budget?

No, I can get RAM separate from my budget

That is currently the best priced I5 since it does not have the integrated GPU that you were not going to use anyway.
