I have recently done a complete overhaul of my system, and am now in need of some good RAM, yet I do not know what is compatible, or what is the best.
I have a GA-970A-UD3 motherboard, AMD fx-8350 CPU, and Sapphire GHz edition 7970 (3 GB).

I would like 16 GB, and to stay around $120-$160 or so.

What would be the fastest, most future proof RAM I could get with this build?

Regardless of all lists motherboard or ram manufacturers over 99% of all ddr3 ram works in any motherboard with DDR3 slot (excluding ECC requirements for server hardware). I have never used a QVL list when buying ram and I have never had issues in almost 2 decades.
Here are lists for you on gskill site It is supported on Asus 970, 990x, 990FX boards MSI 990x and 990FX boards, for gigabyte they have the A75 and 85 FM chipsets http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f3-1866c9d-16gxm
All it means is that they have tested the ram on those boards, they do not have the time or the resources to test every board no more than the board manufacturer has the same for every modul
