Building a PC, Question about anti-static wristband

Are they necessary. I have a area set out where im going to build it in my kitchen where i will have my faucet right next to me, is the wristband worth getting?

it an extra step to keep from zapping a rig. if your not on carpet and dont walk around when your building the pc and use the case to short yourself too you should be fine.

no, just touch the case or something to ground yourself before you start, i wouldn't worry about the band unless you're sliding all over some carpet as you build... (which could be nice i guess)

It can be done with out it. i usually just touch the metal ont he case to dis charge me before i put my hands in or on the electronics. I do have one for when I am dealing with a customers PC but my own i never use it.

Not really just touch your case a lot, however if you live in an area with a lot of static electricity (aka Arizona) then get one.

I never used one. Never had any incidents, either. That being said, the proper "attire" for all PC service-people includes one, so I can not really say anything against it. Besides, I always made sure I was not in contact with any material that would facilitate static buildup, like a wool carpet, or fabric that is prone to that. If you can touch something that's grounded before touching the PC parts, I would say you should be OK.
Like I said, I can not recommend NOT wearing one, but I never did. YMMV.

I would be building in a environment with no carpet. I guess i will just not get one unless i just happen to walk into one somewhere.
