It looks like my previous solution has finally stopped working (previous thread: http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/311973-31-windows)

So everything is working fine on my PC (it's the same one, I'll post the specs at the bottom for posterity) until I go to reinstall the operating system. It had been more than a year and it was time. I figured that at the same time, I'll install another hard drive. Anyway, one system installation later and I'm facing the same problem. Computer freezes up randomly for no apparent reason.

I try to apply the previous solution exactly as provided (set my page file size to 12 GB initial 16 GB max) and still I freeze. I even went as far as to set up another page file on a different drive, but it still keeps happening.

I know my system is getting on in years (approaching 3 years, actually). I've done all the standard stuff. Installed all the latest drivers, run memtest86+ for 4+ hours with no errors. I'm at my wits end.

Also, as a side note, I don't know if this has anything to do with my current troubles, but my RAM is showing up funny in CPU-Z. It's supposed to be clocked for 1600 but it keeps showing up as 800 or below and I can't figure out why. When I go to the BIOS to change it, it lets me, but there's no boost in the RAM speed.

Screenshot of CPU-Z:

Specs:

-Cooler Master 600 Watt PSU
-ASUS ENGTX460 GeForce GTX460 1 gig gfx card
-ASUS M4A87TD EVO AM3 870 motherboard
-8 gigs G.Skill Ripjaws DDR1600 RAM
-AMD Phenom II x4 925 2.8 GHz CPU
-2 x 750 Gig WD HDD

Well, in response to the first part of my question, it seems that all it took was to take the newly installed hard drive out. No problems.

Though I am still curious as to why CPU-Z and my BIOS are reading my memory as less than what it should be.
