Hi all,

I've been looking to get a new video card- I've narrowed it down to an HD7870 and a GTX660.. both are priced similarly. (~$160)...

Which one should I get? Or should I get neither of them? I'm hoping to get good performance on high-ish settings in GTA 5 at 1080p without any overclocking.

Anything under $180~ would be good if they are the video cards above.

Thanks in advance!
Sam

Get a 7950 3gb (sapphire edition) for $199 after rebate with 3 free games. It will outperform both of the cards you have listed with ease (especially oc'ed). http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...

And by the way, Gta 5 is not on the pc...

There is always something better for a little more. He said his budget is ~$160.

ikr, but his budget is 160 down if he wants to spend more money on the 7950 it's his choice but yah 7870 is pretty cheap for it's performance

His budget is 180 and under, not 160, plus there is no point in getting a worse card when you can simply spend an extra 20 bucks, seriously.

Nothing less than a 7870. And the 7870 is gonna perform above the 660. However, with BF4 coming soon you might want to max out your budget on this one. If you don't care about BF4 then still get the 7870.

Hi guys, thanks for your replies.

I do understand that GTA V hasn't come out for PC yet, but I want to be able to run it if it does (go support GTA V for PC @ http://www.change.org/petitions/rockstar-release-gta-v-... btw).
I don't really have budget, it's just that the HD7870 and the GTX 660 seems like a good deal at $160 on Newegg.

I might go with the http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... ... but I really don't want to spend 200+ on a video card...

How "future-proof" do these cards look? I read that the 7950 will last for ~3 years from now...

Well if you can afford the 7950, definitely go with that. It has 3GB of RAM and it overclocks well ( I know you said you don't want to overclock, but you probably will). It is definitely more "future-proof" than a 7870 or a 660.

Seriously, spend a little extra and get the 7950. Down the road when your game starts to lag you'll be like dang, I should have spent the 30 bucks...

Should I go for SAPPHIRE or XFX? XFX has a slightly faster core clock, but I've never heard of XFX before.....

Sam

XFX, sapphire is poo in comparison.

Hmmm.... after a bit of research I found out that XFX offers Lifetime warranty on parts and labor! Impressive!

But I've never heard of XFX before ._.

I'd get the Sapphire. I don't think Lifetime Warranty means in 4 years you can get something repaired for free. You gotta look into the details of it. Also, the Sapphire gets great reviews and more popular...i'd get that one.

The XFX cooler is one of the worst coolers I have used on builds this generation. I vote Sapphire.
