hi everybody, it my first post and i wanted to ask if that psu woud handle the vga hd 7870

the thing is im low on budget and already have the PSU.

my idea is to build this pc for gaming:

FX-6 Core Vishera 6300
Gigabyte GA-970A-D3P
Sapphire HD7870 OC 2Gb
ram 2X 4GB sniper

note that im from argentina, and that plus a HD would cost me almost U$D 1000

PS: do you think this is a good gaming configuration?

The setup seems good, I owned the FX 6300 earlier this year in one of my builds and its a very fast processor for the price. The PSU you selected will do okay, It has the PCIe connectors you'll need for the graphics card but 500W is the bare minimum, I might go with 600W to be safe. The 500W will work but if you plan to overclock the CPU you'll need the 600.

yeah, thats what i thought, thank you, and no, I dont think ill be OC any time soon. I'm not very good at it, and this are expensive things for me. may be in a few years when they start to fall behind newer games. BTW, the Coolermaster only have one 6 pin connector and the 7870 needs two. do you think its ok if I use an adapter?

thankks again man!

Yes, it's perfectly fine to use the molex to pcie adapters, Plug the 6 pin connector into one socket and just use an adapter on the second. The minimum PSU requirement for the 7870 is 550 watt though. You could probably find a 600W for almost the same price. I've built a few rigs before and it's one of those cases where it's better to be safe than sorry.

yeah, I'd have to sell the 500w first though... or maybe buy an hd 8750? I feel like i'm trying to do magic for the 7870... between the budget and what i have...

ps: "...500 Watt Power Supply is required.." from the system requirements in the sapphire site... maybe i'm losing something. I dont know much

Yeah its a 500 minimum but 550 recommended. The 500W should be enough but just curious, what else are you plugging into the motherboard, any fans? PCI cards? and stick with the 7870, its a much better card than the 8750.

This is the complete configuration:

FX-6 Core Vishera 6300
Gigabyte GA-970A-D3P
Sapphire HD7870 OC 2Gb
2X4GB sniper
1 Tb WD SATA III Blue 64Mb Buffer
Fan 120mm

but i might as well leave the fan out

PS: sory about the link to sapphire, im trying to understand. (recomended vs required--- Obvious);)

If the power supply isnt pushing out enough then you wont damage anything, what will happen is while you're gaming the system will randomly freeze or the game will crash, generally you get the blue screen of death but nothing gets damaged. I personally had a weak power supply at one point so i experienced this first hand

I ran your hardware through a PSU calculator that seems to be reliable and the 500W should be enough. Your system should only be using 400W so you're okay.

No cd rom drive?

If you want to use the HD7870, don't use the coolermaster extreme power plus 500w, just like the review say " Maximum power (500W ) isn't everthing."
Read that review, I think you should get the bettter PSU. And what budget? what store to buy? We will find one for you.

well, the thing is I dont have any budget left, so I'd have to buy another vga instead... but assuming that i had, what PSU would you recommend for this build price/performance wise?

thank you both for the answers and links

sory, no, I dont have that to spare, besides, a Extreme Power Plus 700w Cooler Master would cost me around USD 200 (again... argentina). Unless youn know a place here where I could get those for that!

thanks!

Yeah judging from the location, shipping, and fees. You're gonna be lookin at a much different price. I snooped around some forums and turns out people have successfully run the 7870 on a power supply as low as 430W. Again you don't have to worry about damaging your equipment if the power supply is not enough. The computer will just shut down safely.
