I'm looking up RAM to go with a AsRock Extreme3 990fx Mobo and an 8350 CPU.
Right now I'm looking at a Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB DDR1866

and the Vengeance® Pro Series — 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 DRAM 1600MHz

I was wondering what's the difference between these to ram? Besides that one has a higher speed rating than the other? I'm planing on overclocking the cpu, which one will be better at it if there is any difference at all. Sorry I'm brand new to building computers and this is going to be my second build.

Solution
Best bet would be the 2133/9, if you go 1866/9 and OC it to 2133 will prob end at CL10 and take about + 0.05 of additional DRAM voltage (which is no biggie, but for the small dollar differance, if you go 2133/9, then there's the option to OC it to 2400/10 in the future

Ah so there's no difference between the PRO version and the standard Vengeance besides color and one is just faster? I only chose Corsair since I saw them today at Microcenter. I love g.skill and totally forgot about them! I checked the one you sent me, how about this one? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231519 It's faster for $10 more.

Also I was wondering what do the timing mean? I see that a 9-9-9-24 $5 more than a 9-10-9-28? 1 last thing is what does CAS latency mean? Is 11 worse than 9?

The 2133 set is at a CAS 11, so actually performance wise it is a bit slower than the 1866/9 set - if that 2133 set was CL10 - it would be slightly better, it would be about equal for flat out performance and get the nod for slightly higher bandwidth (can process more MB a second), however with a CL11 at 2133 the increased bandwidth of 2133 is negated by the slower 11 CL - get's difficult to explain, sorry but 1866/9 is better then 2133/11 in short

Thank you for clearing that out for me. So if I were to compare the 2133 that's CL10 to a 1866 that's CL9, would there be a huge difference in performance? Like would I be able to see the difference? If not I'd just go with 1866 since it's cheaper.

Or would it be more wise to just bite the bullet and spend $94 for the 2133 CL9? I mean if I overclocked the 1866 to a higher speed, that would give me the same performance right?

Ah thank you so much! I've got my build all planned out then, all I got to do is wait for the holiday sales. Thanks again for helping me out!

Oh I almost forgot, should I worry about the timings at all? Would that effect much? I mean if I don't have the money later on and decide to get the 1866 ones would 9-10-9-28 be worse than 9-9-9-24?
