PC rebooting after loading games since new ram installation

I've recently started having pc crashes. When they first started, they would come randomly during gaming or web browsing, with a bsod and a windows stop error B3, physical memory dump. This would happen around once a day. Now it has escalated to crashing when loading up games, specifically Defiance. I purchased a 4gb set (2 sticks) of ram to upgrade with the other 4gb set I have already. I have tried re-seating the ram, and checked all cards and connections. I have re-installed my gpu drivers and checked temps on everything, which have checked out okay. Running cpu-z and checking all the DIMMs shows that all numbers match. Anyway, I'm not sure what to do at this point, and any help would be appreciated.

board - gigabyte p35 ds3r
cpu - intel core 2 quad 2.4 ghz
ram - g skill 8gb DDR2 400mhz
gpu - evga gtx 650 Ti boost
psu corsair tx650m

I would try using just one stick of RAM and seeing if you have the issue, if the problem stops i suggest one of those sticks are faulty. If it keeps happening try the other stick and see if it still does it with that one. If that fails to solve the problem i would suggest trying all the DIMM slots as sometimes they go bad also

sounds like a memory fault. do as the previous person suggested. if you want to simply test the ram, get memtest86, run it on each stick of ram individually (only one plugged in) 5 or so passes should do on each. if all the ram works fine, then try one stick of ram we know works in each memory slot on your motherboard, one at a time. it might be a faulting slot on the board.

if none of this turns up something, it could be a voltage issues. put your ram back in, know that all your ram should be clocked identically (i hope you got identical ram to the first kit) and give the ram a small bump in voltage... say 0.5V, no more. if your ram is already running at 1.6V don't do this, as intel cpus can't really handle ram at higher voltages then that.

Okay, so I tested each stick in each slot and then together in pairs. The only time I was able to get the game up and running without a crash was with 1 module of the old set in the red slot, and both modules of the new set in the red slots. So it may be that the yellow ram slots (because there has never been a set in it for 6+ yrs) and one of the original modules may be faulty. Let me know your thoughts on this. Also I have not yet run memtest.

I think you might have forgetten a 0 from there, 0.05V would be a small bump, or 0.1V... surely not half a volt

to OP
check the yellow slots for dust, if they have been unused for some time there's likely some dust and other stuff in them already :)
canned air or something...

Well, after a 10 minute gaming session the PC rebooted itself again. Now I'm somewhat confused. In the BIOS I have the ram voltage set to +0.4v, as the options went from +0.1v all the way to +0.7v. I will bump it up to +0.5v and see what happens.

update: I was able to log back into the game after changing the voltage to +0.5v, however the PC rebooted after about 2 minutes. Not sure if this is related at all.

Yes that is very strange. Have you always been getting BSOD periodically since you've had the system?

I have found the problem, and it was a hunch I had been having for awhile. I had intended to buy a new case, and upon putting my system into the new case the problems went away. So it looks like it was dirty power causing my issues for all these years.

I will run memtest with each stick soon, but i did it while i was at work last night with all 4 sticks and it reported no errors. I am thinking the problem is that its not supported. So i'll look into a new set of supported ram after i finish all the memtest passes.
