Hey guys, I've been reading reviews, blogs, and everything else I can find but seems everywhere I go each place has a different opinion on everything.

What I have now:
Modem: Motorola Surf Board SB5102 Internet Modem
Plan: "UP TO" 25 Mbps down + "UP TO" 2.5 Mbps up
Router: D-Link Xtreme N Wireless Router (DIR-655)
Connected Devices:
-1 Dekstop PC Connected via gigabit cable (in main office where router/modem are) *Main floor*
-1 Desktop PC connected via D-Link Xtreme Wireless N adapter (son's room - gaming pc) *Basement*
-3 Laptop's all connected via built in Wireless N *2 primarily main floor, 1 primarily basement
-3 cell phones, 1 ipod touch, +/- a few if we have people over or some of us arent home.
-PS3, Boxee Box, Smart TV (not close to son's room - almost directly underneath main floor office) *Basement*

My Plan"

I will be upgrading our internet plan to Broadband (50 Mbps Down/3 Mbps Up *OR* 100 Mbps Down/5 Mbps Up)

The only place I would be willing to wire a gigabit wire to is the main room in the basement where the Smart TV and PS3 are. I will probably move the Boxee Box upstairs since the PS3 and Smart Tv are pretty much capable of doing anything it is.

I figure the best thing for my sons room is a Powerline AV 500 adapter so he has a more stable connection for his gaming.

I am willing to use open source firmware on a router (current router doesn't seem to be on any supported devices list) but if there are routers with good enough firmware that is fine.

My son uses a VPN on his computer for netflix and what not, but I dont really see the need for the whole house to be on one (feel free to convince me otherwise).

Me and my son are going to be putting together a home built media server using old computer parts (this probably wont be finished for a few months at least) and on that we will have movies, tv shows, music, etc and will be connecting it directly to the router via gigabit. I would want to be able to access this media server with the downstairs tv/ps3, and the tv on the main floor (will get something to hook up to the tv eventually).

I would like to have at least 1 of our 3 printers (all in main office - You'd have to ask my wife why we have 3..) so that if we happen to working on our laptops we dont have to transfer the files to the main desktop or manually connect the laptop to the printer.

Soo..
1 - Can you suggest any routers? (none of my current devices support Wireless ac so I dont see the point in getting an ac router)
2 - For the basement TV/PS3 - should I bother running a wire down there or will a Powerline switch do the trick?
3 - Is my modem worth replacing or should I leave that alone?
4 - Is the Powerline AV 500 adapter the best bet for my sons room for gaming?
