Hi friends,
I want to build a new desktop PC based on Z87 exp. chipset motherboards. I would frequently use the PC for video encoding, editing etc. Gaming or OC is not my priority at all. What I need most is very good graphics and exceptionally good sound quality for pure reproduction of indian classical song. With Z87 MOB, I intend to buy an i5- LGA 1150(entry level) with 2x4GB DDR3 ram. Due to my meagre knowledge in hardware, I am unable to decide a cheap MOB/processor combination. Few of my friends suggested following choices--
i) Gig. Z87-UD5 ii) MSI z87-GD65 III) ASROCK Z87 Extreme 4 or 6(availability & servicing this board might pose problem in my locality)
Another friend suggested me a cheaper 3rdGen i5+Gig. G1 sniper M3 after knowing my requirements.
Regarding Graphic cards, AMD would be my choice preferably less than $100. I have not received any suggestions about any audio card which would suit my purpose. My total budget would be around $500-550. I am getting confused about chosing a approx. combination. Kindly guide me with little elaborations considering my knowledge limitations.
PS: Pl. also tell me which SMPS I should use- 600W or 750W for keeping my PC cool.

Thanks & regards,
J.G.Paul

If going 1150 will need the Z87, the 3rdGen mobos are 1155, you are prob looking at the 4670K, my first choice would be the Asus Hero (same price as the Extreme 6 you mention), 2nd the Asus Z87 Pro V edition, then the Gryphon, Asus seems to have the best handle on the Z87 mobos....Nest I would look to your Rock picks, MSI I won't even touch for client builds due to their poor QC

Initially, you could use on board graphics in lieu of a discrete GPU, and for sound, the Hero has the FX 8 Channel audio which is great. A 600 Watt PSU should suffice

Hi Tradesman1,
Thanks for your comment. Actually, I didn't think about Asus because my earlier two asus boards malfunctioned before warranty period, though priced much less. After your reply, I enquired about Asus Hero, which cost about $290 in Calcutta. Gryphon was not available in a no. of dealers. As told by me, my main requirement for this PC is for video encoding & I want this to be done in minimum possible time & my budget does not permit me to go for a very high processor like i7. Do u have any idea about difference in video encoding time if I use 3rd Gen i5+LGA 1155 MB(like Gig. G1 Sniper M3- this board contains creative 3D chip for audio & an on-board W-lan), then I can save around $90- 100.
As u suggest, I shall avoid MSI board & initially build my pc without Graphics & audio card. ASRock boards are little cheaper compared to the specs. What is your idea about ASrock Z87 Extreme 4 & Extreme 6? Pl.suggest.
