New build problem with OS installation, possibly SSD (SOLVED)

So this is my first time building my own computer (and posting here too).

I really thought I'd have to post here sooner as I had so many issues building the system (CPU/mobo incompatibility, RAM installed incorrectly, etc). But thanks to having a laptop w/ Internet, I was able to find the answers I needed online.

I made it past the "no signal" problem I had for awhile and can enter the BIOS. Problem is I can't install any operating systems. I first tried Ubuntu 10.04.3 and kept getting an input/output error.
I tried Windows XP (64 Bit), but it gave me an error too (can't remember which one exactly).

I can use the "Try Ubuntu"' option booting off a CD, but obviously this is no long-term solution.
Since this works, I'm sure it's not the DVD/BD player. But since both Windows and Linux could not install, I think the Internal drive might be bad.

I tried booting Hiren's to Xp and it performed just fine, so I tried different programs to check the integrity of the disk. The weird thing is some of them wouldn't recognize the SSD, but some did.
One of them gave me an error in some of the sectors, but when I ran something called HD Tune it didn't find any bad sectors.

So my question is, do I have a faulty SSD? How can I find out for sure? Or does it sound like another issue entirely?

I don't know if this helps, but the system uses

Intel i7 4770k
Evga GTX 670
Asus Maximus IV Hero
and the internal drive is an Adata Sp900 256GB SSD.

And right now it's basically a $1000+ night light.

It's set to AHCI by default.

For some reason the motherboard isn't detecting the SSD in the BIOS. It says all the SATA slots are empty.

Yes, it is fully powered. Tried a different cable with no change.

I have a Bluray drive attached via SATA as well. The funny thing is the BD drive works perfectly, but is not detected either.

Well, I took another look at the manual and found that I attached the drives to the wrong ports (data only).
Now they are attached correctly and the BIOS recognizes them, but... still can't install an operating system.

Okay, so an update:

I tried another internal hard drive to a different SATA connector with a different cable. Still getting the same errors.

2nd update: Just in case anybody runs into this problem, I managed to get XP installed by changing the SATA settings in the BIOS to IDE.
