Bought a new monitor from amazon.ca. Its an HP LA2405x monitor. It gives me instructions on how to setup the monitor. However... i cannot set it up. The base of it is just very weird, i can't push it so then my monitor would be standing up. Basically i just pushing it around a few time and still cannot get it to stand.

Can someone tell me what im doing wrong? I'm pushing it in every way and it doesn't work. I youtube it and i dont see any video of it. I never had a monitor where it is this complicated.

I cannot push the neck up so it would stand straight. Anyone can tell me what im doing wrong here? Im not a computer smart person and very novice with these things. I use to play on a 2007 fp 20.1 monitor back in the usa and when i got the monitor, it was easy to setup everything. The base/stand of this monitor is so strange i cannot pull it up.

It says

NOTE: When the monitor is unfolded for the first time, the display head is locked from adjusting to a full-height position. To adjust the display head to full height, press down on the display head to unlock it then pull up on the display head to raise it to the full-height position.

This is the problem im having. I have no idea what/where is the display head. Can someone who have this monitor or does these things tell me how i can do this? Theres no video on youtube for this and i cannot believe they make a monitor to adjust to stand up is this complicated. The picture they give doesn't even help.

Solution
Ok first were you able to unfold it so it looks like the picture? If so with it upright (like the picture) put your hand on the top edge of the screen (they call the screen the head go figure) in the center and push down firmly but not hard. You can put your other hand on the stand base to keep it steady. An alternate is to put each hand on the screen sides and pull the screen down vertically. There is an internal catch that will release as you push down that then lets the screen move up or down on the stand, it does not tilt only up or down.

Hi. No i did not. I dont know how you do that. It just looks like figure 1 except its still folded down like how it looks in the picture and i cannot get it to look like figure 1.

Basically all i can do is push the monitor up or down a bit. The monitor screen is basically face down. I cannot pull it up. Well i can but i can only push it back 15 percent only. Does that make sense? Very frustrated that this monitor is this hard to set up.

When you try to unfold it, are you putting one hand on the base and lifting it to the vert. by the handle? You need to use the handle to lift it up. It may take a bit more lift than you are using. If it does not straighten fairly easily it may be defective. However you can call HP support they are usually helpful.

Hi, im not even sure if i'm doing it right. All i know is im holding it and pulling it many ways and nothing is going through. So basically im doing trial and error. I dont want to pull something too hard b/c im worried i would break it.

How do i put my hand on the base? I looked at the picture instructions that was given to me, it looks so confusing. I youtubed this monitor but dont see anything about how to do this.

You put your hand on what will be the back of the base. Around the curved section with the center slot. One hand there and the other hand grasping the handle (fingers through the handle). Then pull back towards the hand holding the base. If you have it on a table, turn it so the screen is pointing away from you. Now you can put one hand on the curved part below the hinge line (you can see the hinge where it will rotate up at) then with the other hand on the handle pull towards you. If all goes right you will have the screen up and facing away from you. Hope this helps.

It is quite simple. The fact that you are having such issues makes me think you have a defective unit. All you got to do is lift it by the handle up to the vertical. Then you push down on it a bit to release the screen so it can be adjusted. Where did you buy it? Send it back or go get another.

Hi i finally got it to work. I got a question about the wires they gave me. I connected 3 things to it... the power supply from the monitor to an outlet. Then the blue cable to my laptop. Then that cable from the monitor to my laptop. The other table is where it connect from my usb in my laptop toward the monitor... its connected to the thing that has the computer screen. What is that called?

However theres 2 more cables they gave me. One is grayish and looks exactly like the blue cable. Thats the VGA cable and basically an extra vga cable? Its like square/rectangle? Or is that a different one from the blue one?

The last cable is a black cable and it seems to be bigger. It doesn't seem to plug into my laptop slot at all. Can someone tell me what that is?

Yeah so far so good, grtz on getting the thing upright. Please let's refer to the picture in the link you provided at the start. Rear Components-Figure 2:
Using the table of connections:
1. Is power-sounds like you have that done.
2. Skip
3. & 4. are video signal from the laptop to the monitor VGA (blue #4) or DVI (#3) use the DVI.
5. Is the USB link from your laptop to the monitor. It has an almost square plug at one end and a regular USB on the other. Connect this to the monitor (squarish end) and plug the other into any usb port on the laptop.
Now you can use the 2 usb ports on the side of the monitor for any usb device. Hope this helps. Please post a pic. of the cables if you have any other questions or issues. :)

The main difference between VGA and DVI is in the way the video signals travel. VGA connectors and cables carry analog signals while DVI can carry both analog and digital. DVI is newer and offers better, sharper display compared to VGA.

Yes i see because it screen doesn't look that very good. However... i dont seem to have a DVI port on my laptop? Laptop is an Asus u45jc-a1 that i bought a few years ago so shouldn't it be pretty updated new computer? It seems like it only has vga or hdmi only? But this monitor only has VGA or DVI so basically my only option to connect laptop to monitor is VGA as thats what im connected to now?

Im confused a bit but wouldn't most monitors besides vga or dvi... isn't hdmi the other option?

Look at this (http://www.amazon.com/DVI-HDMI-Cable-6ft-Male-Male/dp/B0002CZHN6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1381201213&sr=8-1&keywords=%22dvi+to+hdmi%22), or this (http://www.amazon.com/Importer520-Plated-Female-DVI-D-Adapter/dp/B0035B4LJM/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1381201292&sr=1-3&keywords=dvi+to+hdmi+cable+adapter) as two examples of a solution. Almost any store like BestBuy or Radio Shack will have them.

Hey can you help me with this?

I connect my laptop to my monitor with a VGA cable because that is the only way i can do it. I cannot do DVI because my laptop... Asus u45jc-a1 doesn't have a DVI port. I thought about doing HDMI from laptop to monitor but monitor doesn't have HDMI port so this is the only way to connect.

I went to set up monitor to use multiple monitors.

Display 1 is my laptop monitor that is 14' with 1366x768 resolution which is why i want to use the monitor i bought so i could play on a 24' monitor with 1920x1200 resolution.

I changed the display from that to HP LA2405x with the 1920x1200 resolution and orientation is landscape and for multiple displays, i put show desktop only on 2 because i only want my monitor to show everything and don't want nothing at all displayed on my laptop.

For the power options, i'm on power4gear high performance. I'm either on this one or high performance. Reason is b/c i play lot of tables and need to have it to do its best to go as fast as possible.

For on battery and plugged in... where you have the dim display, turn off the computer, computer go to sleep... i made everything NEVER and also adjust plan brightness is set to the max. I had this done for power4gear high performance, high performance and even power4gear entertainment mode even though i don't use that one. I know the default for on battery when they dim the display is 2 or 5 minutes but i changed everything to never.

Does anyone know what i can do to fix this problem? I can't have my monitor keep going to sleep after 5 minutes or 15 minutes or 30 minutes when im playing poker.

I read online a lot of ppl who have these problems... its almost always an HP monitor.

Anyone who has a monitor like this or HP monitor can give me some advice? Makes no sense it goes to sleep when in the settings i put never for all of them.

Since I do not multi screen and never use a Laptop, I can only give you some general ideas. I would look at the bios to see if there is some power saving options controlled from there. I would also check device manager and right click the HP screen to see its' properties. There may be sleep parameters there. GL

I checked device manager for my monitor. Doesn't show anything strange. I did update the driver to see if that might change anything.

What do you want me to check with the bios settings? Im not sure where to go when i get tehre.

dogsnake. Is there a way to connect the hp monitor to my laptop without being vga? Someone suggested i do hdmi to dvi. Would that be possible for me? I have no idea if my laptop can do hdmi or dvi. I do have the dvi cable though from the monitor?

Hi. I see it now. I have a question. Do you there is a possibility that my monitor keep going to sleep... could it be because im using a VGA and not DVI? Because if this could be a possibility, then i would buy the hdmi to dvi cable. But if there is no way that could be the reason, i probably would stick to vga.
