I have a new build; it's only three months old. It's got a GTX 660 and a PSU 550 W. I'm wondering, if I get a new GPU in, say, two years, and let's say it requires just a bit more power than the GTX 660, then should I also get a new PSU?

I've heard that PSUs are most efficient when under 50–80% load, and also, that they decrease in efficiency over time. So, would that mean that even though the PSU is sufficient now, that it won't be in a few years, so I should get a new PSU along with the new GPU (and possibly new CPU)?

If I could predict GFX things that are going to be happening 2 years from now, Id be playing the market right now instead of perusing THG forums. When ya bought the 660, I wuda sized the PSU to handle a 2nd one.

That wuda meant a 600 watter or better yet a 650.

Power requirements for CPUS and GPUs are dropping, predicting how far they will drop by 2 years from now would be at best a wild guess.

thats a solid psu, should be good for a few years. if you upgrade in the future, use a power supply calculator that you aren't using more than total wattage.
