Hello,

I currently am on a campus with a closed network. In order to get onto the network one must register their device using their college username and password. I am trying to get a CISCO router to work in my dorm and have run into some problems.

I can successfully access the router and duplicate the MAC Address to be the same as my computer but it still will not allow me to see the outside world. I am wondering if anyone might have some suggestions of how to best bypass this?

Thanks so much!

This all depends on how the network is setup. Can you get the proper IP on the devices when connected to the router? Did you disable the router features like DHCP and NAT? A double NAT can easily cause issues and if you are using the DHCP from the router, you won't have the right settings for the network. Best place to check with on how to configure it would be from whoever setup the network (or is at least working on maintaining it). You may just need a simple switch.
Unless you are OK with getting a visit from the school them and probably a letter sent to your parents about misuse of the school network, you'd go though the school IT department if you want more than one device on the network.

It's against forums rules on Tom's to ask for info on bypassing security settings.

I actually work for ITS and the rules at olur school are fine with any number of devices being added, so the question is is more of how to get it to be visible.

Thanks!
