I have 2x4gb ram on the laptop. The bios says that 8 gb are installed but only 4 gb are available in operating system.

I tried on msconfig - boot - advanced options - maximum memory to change the value of memory but if i place 2 gb i get 2 gb but if i place 6 gb i got 4 gb or even if i remove it i still get 4 gb.

CPU-ID states that the first memory is in single channel ?!?

I would appreciate any help.

sounds like one (or more) of your ram sticks is faulty.

that or you don't actually have win7 x64 installed but win7 x86. try pulling out one of the 2gb sticks... see if you're down 2 gb of USABLE ram... if that one doesn't do it, pull a different one, and reinsert the first one. keep swapping out ram till you've tried it with all 3 sticks of ram out at one point. if at any point you have both 4gb usable and 4gb installed you know you've found the bad ram.
