Just curious about the idea for USB monitors and gaming. I feel like it'd be a no brainer to create a portable monitor, powered via USB, and displayed by VGA, DVI, HDMI, or something of the sort. Unfortunately, this doesn't exist, but monitors via USB do. I want to use one for a second display at home (gaming on my main monitor, and other stuffs (internet browsing/ word processing) on my other monitor). I want to also use it on the go as a primary display for gaming.

My question is whether I would be able to use a monitor such as so (http://www.amazon.com/AOC-E1649FWU-USB-Powered-Portable-Monitor/dp/B005SEZR0G/ref=cm_cd_ql_qh_dp_t) to use as a second display at home and for gaming on the go (LAN Parties and such). My primary concern is the bottleneck of USB 2.0 resulting in inadequate gaming ability, regardless of GPU (I'm running EVGA 660Ti).

That being said, a newer model has come out (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CMKOVMO/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER) ($40 more) at a USB 3.0 speeds. Based upon my needs, what are your guy's impressions?

Thanks!

USB will certainly be a bottleneck for gaming video (even USB 3) so it would be good if it was only powered by USB and then displayed through the connection of your choice. As you pointed out I do not know of any that have external connections and then USB for power but in all honesty I havent looked either.

Just brain storming here... but what you could do is get a regular thin LED monitor and just remove it from the stand and then maybe create a custom base to attach to it and prop it up. You would use normal AC for it, but if you are going to be gaming you will certainly have AC somewhere close by or your gaming session will be short lived anyway.

I know I might be a bit late but I have seen such monitors that are powered by usb but use hdmi as input. They are the Gechic brand Monitors, the 1301 and 1501 models to be more exact. I just came across this thread while trying to find something similar that is a bit more readily available in Australia.
