intel core i7 2,93Ghz
Asus gtx 770 direct cuII
corsair TX850W
8 gb of ram
Motherboard P7H55-M SI

So i recently upgraded my computer from ati radeon hd 5870 to new graphics card Asus gtx770 direct CUII, and i also bought new ram modules.. i had 2x2gb and now i use 2x4gb so i have 8 gb ram.. The problem is i get in all games.. and its fps drop like every 7 seconds and it lasts for 3 seconds.. for example i play battlefield 3.. and i get amaazing fps on ultra like 100fps.. and then it drops every 7 seconds to 40 fps for 3 seconds.. if i play crysis3 it goes like from 45 fps down to like 15 fps every 7 seconds,.. also gpu usage goes down to 40% or more when fps drop occur,.. and then goes back up to 99% and then its good fps... and it doesnt stop,... this problem was happening with older gpu also,.. first i tought i need new psu,.. and i upgraded to corsair TX 850W,.. problem is still here. Maybe my CPU is slow? and i need to overclock it? im afraid of voltages,.. i dont know what could cause this problem,.. i need your help guys :/ !

omg.. i was playing battlefield 4 now.. in a little window.. not in fulscreen just to see temperatures of my cpu,.. it spiked constantly from 60C to 70C.. when it was on 60C it run smoothly.. but like every 2 seconds it started fps drops.. and cpu temperatures went to 70C,.. and then went down to 60C stoped lagging... this did continiusly and there were same spikes.. until i stoped playing bf4.. cpu temperatures went normalny to 40C.. wtf??!?!

That happens to everybody in BF4 Beta. It's horribly optimized.

Run the program than play your game a game thats been out for a while and isnt horribly optimized. The program will show the hottest temp on the right side and current on the left side.take a screen shot and post it here after about 10 minutes. 70c is on the warm side but its not your problem, have you tried running your memory in both channels?say you ran in dimm slot 1 and 3,try running it in 2 and 4.

This is what I would personally do.

First download a GPU/CPU frequency monitoring program. Have them running whilst playing the game. Wait till you get FPS drops a couple of times, tab out of the game then check what the graphs say.

I recommend GPU-Z and CPU-z. For GPU you might also want to look into MSi Afterburner or similar. Personal preference really.

well i dont understand why i get no fps drop in crysis 1 and why gpu usage is stable.. but when i play crysis3 or battlefield 3,.. or newer games my fps are constantly droping to half.. and gpu usage is unstable,.. same with olg gpu :(

Try my suggestion. I mainly wanted you to check to see if the proc/gpu was for some reason downclocking itself during gaming. (Its happened before)

Also check for a bios update (Don't update if it doesn't explicitly state that it fixes some problems that might be related to this. No need to take a risk of bricking your board when it won't help anything)

well when there are fps drops my gpu usage goes down and then back up and it is okay. and my cpu is thermal throteling, i was told to buy new Cooler Master Hyper TX3 Evo for CPU. becouse when it hits 70C it starts lagging and then it goes back to 60C,.. this keeps repeating. i think new cooler will fix it.

That CPU shouldn't throttle at 70c, its TJmax is near 95c IIRC.

But for 20 bucks you really can't go wrong with a TX3 even if it doesn't solve the problem its still going to be a lot quieter than the whiny fan on the stock heatsink.

It can be a lot of different problems.
As you said, CPU throttling can be the problem. But that could happen only if the game was a CPU intensive game, which i don't really remember if BF is.
Just one thing. You are playing games on Ultra, right? And since you are using a GTX 770 i guess it have 2GB video for memory. Im not sure if these games use that ammount of Ram, but just to be sure, you can reduce the quality of the game textures. You don't need to reduce anything except the textures. If this solves the problem, then its because you are experiencing a memory swap in games. At least when i had a GTX 560 last year i had this problem, but it wasn't exactly a drop in FPS, usually the game was freezing for less than a second, and then it was good and playing at good fps.

I had same problem with gtx 590 on my old rig. I had fps drop for a long time, i tried to clean my graphic card completely removing cooling system. It worked for me i didn't have any spikes later. Try to clean motherboard gbu slot, update drivers. It may help for me it worked

drops accur even if i set settings to all lowest in far cry 3.. from 130 fps is droping to 50fps and its the same timing with temperature of CPU 70C-60C and with unstable gpu usage,.. however if i play crysis 1 on higest settings wich is not cpu demanding,.. i get stable fps around 50,.. the cpu temperature is around 50-60C and gpu usage is stable at 99%,.. but when i play cpu demanding games like crysis 3 or far cry 3 or battlefield 3 the same problem occurs,.. i think the new cooler for cpu shoud fix it,.. what are your touthgs on this guys? thank you! :)

oh wait.. mouse24,.. maybe your right,.. maybe its not fault temperature but is my cpu downclocking itself??,.. i dont know how too see if it really does that,. but when i play game and fps drop occur i hear some noice dissapear in cpu,.. its really quiet hard to hear but when the fps goes up,.. this little noise comes back up,.. like its cpu working or fan?

Kolosa, thanks for testing it.
By your reports then i think its safe to assume that it has nothing to do with texture swap.
To check if your CPU is Throttling you can use 2 programs at the same time. CPU-Z and Intel Burn Test.
Run the test and while its running on Intel Burn Test check CPU Z to see if your CPU clock is going to decrease. If it happens, then you are experiencing throttling. Im not sure at which temperature it should start. I use a i7 3770k that should only enables throttling at around 90c but while testing i noticed that when it reaches 80c then it starts to reduce its speed.
If this is the problem i believe i good (and cheap) cooler like the TX3. You can also downclock your CPU and CPU vcore a little, this should help you to not exceed the temperature while using the stock cooler.
