Hello,

My current old computer is on it's last legs and I'd like to have a go at building one - this will be my first attempt from scratch.
I'd like to get a solid, reliable base system, that can run games like Skyrim, Civ5 to a reasonable standard. I plan to upgrade monitor, keyboard & mouse in a few months time. My budget is ~$700, but I may consider waiting on the GPU as well, if other areas need more attention/ money.
This will be my first time building so I'd appreciate guidance on making sure all parts are compatible and if anyone has recommendations on system/ peripheral upgrades for the future, that would be great.

Additional info -
Approximate Purchase Date: next two weeks
Budget Range: $600-700
System Usage from Most to Least Important: gaming, light photo editing, web.
Are you buying a monitor: Not yet
Parts to Upgrade: Case, CPU, mobo, GPU, power, HD, memory.
Do you need to buy OS: Yes, probably Win 8
Preferred Website(s) for Parts: Prefer Newegg and Amazon
Location: Milwaukee, WI
Parts Preferences: was leaning to i5 for reliability, other than that none
Overclocking: No
SLI or Crossfire: No
Your Monitor Resolution: current:1024x768 (to be upgraded later)

I've cobbled together this part list, which still needs a decent power supply. Does it need a cpu cooler?

you'd be better off with an AMD 8320 for about $125, an ASUS m5a97 for about $100.... thneyupgrade toa 7950 with the extra $100 you just saved.

especially for BF4, it will chew up a 1gb 7770.

early results showing it chewing through 2gb of GPU ram just at 1080p

for PSU, anything on sale with rebate and decent review on newegg is fine... 600w is plenty
