Well being that am3+ has zero high end Matx board u have a $60 board so no overclocking, the cpu isnt exactly out of date it just performs around the older Phenom II x4s. Keeping ur am3+ board and doing a bios update u could go to a fx 6300 for $110 right now on newegg and will give quite a performance boost for bf4 and lessen the bottleneck on ur gpu. Could even go for a better board like the gigabyte 970a ud3, good quality overclocking board if u want to and for the cpu and board is only $210 compared to the $330-350 for the i7 and no board, or else get a fx 8350 and board or an i5 and board, but if u really want too get the i7 and board.

Also if u really want to i7 but will never overclock, u can get a socket lga 1150 or 1155 xeon e3-1230 v2/v3 cpu which is basically a standard i7 with no intel hd graphics and the cpu goes for about $220-250

I think i might go with a i5 and motherboard any ideas for good gaming?
  3. i5 is considered by most to be the best gaming cpu, either the 4670k and a z87 board or 3570k and z77 board is best for oc options
