Sound card vs Integrated 7.1 Mobo Audio

Most motherboards use a RealTek audio codec which after trying to use one on my Z68, sucks. Its not horrible but the audio is not nearly as loud as it should be and has issues with some games where it gets to a whisper quiet randomly.

Some other even cheaper boards use VIA which is pretty crappy even compared to RealTek (has issues with lots of games and near no driver support).

Some of the newer ones are coming with much better ones such as a few Asus with Xonars or the G1 Sniper which has a Creative Sound Core3D.

Now that's great but looking at the specs, its still not nearly as good as a discrete sound card, and despite what some say it does make a difference in games. The audio feels crisper and cleaner on a sound card.

That said, I think the G1 Snipers stock audio will probably be good enough for you unless you want, as said, audiophile grade audio.
