I mainly do video editing on my pc, abit of low demand gaming like minecraft and counter strike, I have 8gb 1333mhz ram, would I benefit from 16gb? And a higher 1600mhz?
My specs are:
amd fx8350 4.5ghz
8gb 1333mhz Kingston hyperx
2x hd radeon 7770 ghz edition
700watt corsair psu
Some asus motherboard, not sure

All I want to know is would I see an improvent while video editing and rendering?

Yes it would be a worthy upgrade both for amount and speed..... though i think you will find barely any price difference between DDr3-1600 and DDr3-1866 or even in many cases DDR3-2133. look for the lowest time in nanaseconds which can be calculated from CAS and speed. For example:

CAS Timings ....... CAS/ Speed x 1000 = nanoseconds (voltage)

Cosair Vengeance Pro
9-9-9-24.........9/1600 x 1000 = 5.63 (1.50)
9-10-9-27........9/1866 x 1000 = 4.82 (1.50)
11-11-11-27.....11/2133 x 1000 = 5.16 (1.50)

Corsai5 Dominator Platinuim
9-9-9-24.........9/1600 x 1000 = 5.63 (1.50)
9-10-9-27........9/1866 x 1000 = 4.82 (1.50)
9-11-11-31.......9/2133 x 1000 = 4.21 (1.65)

Mushkin Redline
8-8-8-24.........8/1600 x 1000 = 5.00 (1.50)...

1600mhz 16 gb modules will definetly improve performance for video editing as its an memory hungry takes to encode and decode the videos..
try using it in dual channel

Correct me if im wrong...Yes, Having 1600mhz Ram is 'better' than 1333mhz. You will have twice as much RAM and a faster RAM speed meaning you will notice a speed increase.

However your PC will operate at the slowest component, for example, if you have a really fast CPU but slow HDD, the PC will only be as good as the slowest Component i.e. the HDD.

I don't want to confuse things further but CAS Latency will also have an effect on performance.

Thanks, ill do that now. and I'm wondering wether it's time to kick out my 7770's for one more powerful card? Then sli it later?

Thanks for the links

9-11-11-28 ..... 9/2133 x 1000 = 4.21 (1.65)

Out of the above, the 4.21 is the fastest. As for voltage, don't shy away from 1.65 but if the same speed and timings are available......the lower voltages will reduce the load on ya memory controller to a minor extent

I use the Mushkin 997121Rs which won the performance races in THGs test below

The G.Skill’s DDR3-1866 CAS 10 came in as the value conscious purchase.

Yes, thanks for the stats. And I've found 1600 and 1866 at very similar prices too

I have been doing loads of searching and what most peeps who have "been there and tested that", they are not showing systems being able to show any real improvement other than in memory benchies from 2400 and up. This is kinda key .... as the price really starts to jump once ya pass 2133.
