My set up is:

CPU
- Intel Core i5 3570K @ 3.40 GHz

RAM
- 8GB Single-Channel DDR3 @ 795MHz

Motherboard
- ASRock Z77 Extreme4

Graphics
- Gainward GeForce® GTX 670 Phantom

Hard Drives
- 120GB Samsung SSD 830 Series ATA Device (SSD)

- 2TB Seagate ST2000DM001-1CH164 ATA Device (SATA)

Optical Drives
- HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NS90 (LG)

When I turn on my computer with the monitor connected to the graphics card via an adapter for VGA I can hear the log in sounds ad skype start up so the rest of the computer is still working but the screen will just stay black.

Solution
Well, yeah check your fans if it starts and stops randomly. If it does, you have the same problem as me. And I am going to clean my GPU and bake it today.

Thanks for the reply,
my warranty ended literally a week ago so I'm kind of screwed, and no I don't have another graphics card, but I did plug the monitor into the CPU and it just ran off the in built graphics.
