Hello,

My external WD MyBook's USB connector broke on the pcb board. So I decided just to just take the whole thing apart and remove the hard drive. Now I have it connected to my PC as an internal hard drive. For some reason it won't let me access it, but it does show up in Disk Management. Not sure what I can do at this point. Please look at the screenshot that I attached. What can I do to access it?

Solution
The fact that the drive is being reported as "uninitialised" means that Windows cannot see any partitions in sector 0. This suggests that your drive may be encrypted. This would be the case if it were an Essentials model.

Another complication is that 3TB My Books are configured with 4KB sector sizes. This means that if you remove the drive from its enclosure, you will expose its native 512e sectors and thereby render the data inaccessible, even if it were not encrypted.

In short, the easiest solution is to have your local TV/AV repair shop reattach the USB connector, even if they have to use individual wires to do it.
