Does Mini DisplayPort Transmit Audio?

I want to hook up my PC to my TV using a Mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, but I want to be sure that audio goes through so I can make use of my home theater system. I've googled around and there are mixed answers, and annoyingly it seems that the only people who ask about Mini DisplayPort are talking about Macs. I have two MD ports on my XFX AMD 7950. (Don't want to use the HDMI as my monitor is using it and I want to avoid the nuisance of unplugging/replugging all the time) But from those questions on Macs, it seems they do transmit audio, but when using a HDMI adapter, it depends on the adapter, as well as your graphics card and whatnot. So, since it would be a waste of space putting my parts' specs here, I'll give the links to their pages, and if anyone's kind enough, can you let me know whether I can use the HDMI for audio as well? Thanks!
