With a 170$ budget on a CPU get a 8320 its better then a 8150fx i would also rather get a 6300fx over a 8350 for gaming

Can the 8150 really be overclocked because I didn't see anything about that in its description?

Anyway thanks for the help guys.

Yeah, that cooler will be great for a modest overclock like that. I wouldn't get that motherboard though, it is sort of low-end. Take a look into this one:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131872R
It is about the same price and has better features and it will be easier to overclock on since it is a 970 chipset instead of a 760 chipset.

As for what Danny_Weldon said you could go with a 4670K which will be only a bit more powerful that the FX 8150 in most places but will cost $60 and the motherboard will also cost $60-$100 for a decent one. I suggest you stay with the 8150 and overclock that bad boy a bit :)

Stay away from the 8150. Its extremely power hungry and performs quite badly. For gaming an overclocked 6300 is much better, I you want an 8 core CPU just buy an 8350 which costs nearly the same.

Well now that I do the math it would cost me the same to buy an 8150 and a fan to overclock it than buying an 8350. Maybe i could just buy the 8350 which already has the ghz that i am looking to get from the 8150 but without going through the trouble of overclocking it. Of course i would overclock the 8350 eventually as well but this seems like less work for the time being and could go further in the future when i do overclock it. What do you think? Also could you recommend a micro ATX board. I am looking to do all this in a Bitfenix Prodigy Micro ATX case.

Thank you very much
