Hi everyone. My generic PC would not longer display an image on my 1080p monitor. The monitor, with a black screen would show a box in the top left corner that said "HDMI" it would then switch to "VGA" and then to "Analog" and repeat. I installed an old Geforce GT 520 graphics card. I can now get an image on the screen via VGA, but it is maxed out at 1600x1440 or something like that.
How can I
A) Get the 1920x1080 resolution WITH the graphics card
or
B) Get the 1920x1080 resolution WITHOUT the graphics card

Solution
Go here and download/install this version of Driver Sweeper: http://www.techspot.com/downloads/4266-driver-sweeper.html
Boot to safe mode and run D-S. Have it remove any AMD, ATI, and Nvidia GRAPHIC driver remnants it finds. Then install the gfx card and re-boot to Win7 and install the latest driver for the card again. I would try a digital connection to the card (HDMI, DVI) rather than analog (VGA) when you do this.

Thanks for the quick reply. The motherboard is very old, I can not identify it. I am running windows 7 home premium 64 bit.

I think why it is displaying the 1600x1440 resolution is because it is not up to date. I tried to update the driver multiple times, but It keeps failing. I have tried many steps to get it to work. I believe a program in windows is interfering with it.

If it helps, the monitor worked fine with 1080p resolution, using the CPU's integrated graphics. I turned the Pc off using the power button, and it has never worked since. Thus is why I had to install the GPU.

So, since I can't update the drivers, I need to find a way to get the display back, without the card.

Ok, Its late atm and I will try this tomorrow. One thing though, when you say run driver sweeper then install the card, can I just leave the card in the MB? I can't get any display at all without it.

Oh, I thought you were able to... just not above 1600x900. Yes, I suppose you could do the Driver Sweeper with the PC connected via integrated. But if the integrated port won't work without the gfx card inserted in the MB slot, there is something major wrong with the MB. Normally, the only time the integrated video will work is when there is NO card in the slot.

Hmmmm.... Ill install driver sweeper, run it, remove the card, and try using integrated again. I was not aware of "the only time the integrated video will work is when there is NO card in the slot."

One last thing, if all else fails, would backing up the harddrive and then doing a full restore of the PC work? If not we can at least be sure it is the MB right?
