dont you already have a windows 8 license?

my thoughts on you using the old hdd was that your old pc kicked the bucket... so you wouldnt use it anymore so now have a free key.

if this is the case buying another copy is throwing money into the wind.

sure you could buy yourself win8 64 oem for the disk... but you could make the disk yourself from the iso.

your call. personally i'd save the $100 if i had a spare license just laying around likethat.
there are ways to use an upgrade disk to clean install

one of the various guides... honestly just google "windows 8 clean install with upgrade disk"

http://lifehacker.com/5984278/how-to-do-a-clean-install-of-windows-8-with-an-upgrade-disc

its even possible to install different versions of windows if you have a different version disk.. ie if you have a windows 7 pro license but only a windows 7 home disk you can copy the disk changing a single file which makes it able to install any version (but it only will activate and work for the version you have a valid key for). i did this when reinstalling windows on our laptops (which dont come with windows disks...)
