When i am at the computer, i never have less than 10-15 application actively running (web browsers, email, excel, photoshop, youtube vid, etc).

My question is, for this kind usage, what offers superior performance- more cores or more clock speed?

I know this question has been asked before, but i have not seen it asked in exactly this way. Other instances seem to be in reference to performance of a single application (i am interested in running many)

thanks for the incite.

Cores. Well, actually, threads, in the case of hyperthreading.

That's because the applications can each run on different threads. It's still good to have fast, efficient cores, but for that many applications, you will very much appreciate having a 4+ core CPU.
