Hi everyone,

I currently have a $850 laptop (Dell Inspiron 15r) and it runs Minecraft very well (100-150 FPS) but as soon as I start to record the frame rate drops to 20-25 FPS. I only need 30 FPS while recording for Youtube but I would rather have a desktop anyway so I decided why not just build one. Please suggest any graphics card that wouldn't be overkill for my needs (Under $250 please) Thank you.

That's a bit of a high budget for a graphics card for Minecraft. Please post your entire parts list so I can get a better idea of what you want.

On your laptop, are you running optifine? Also any extensive mod packs such as FTB or tekkit? GLSL shaders?

Yes, I have optifine but no mod packs that would slow gameplay. On Medium render distance I get 150 FPS and when recording, only 20-25. I use bandicam to record.

Okay...
I've done some research, and apparently recording depends on hard drives. So I've decided to do the folloing:

One 1TB 7200RPM HDD for my files, and this is where the recording files will be moved to after I initially record them. Then, I have 2 128GB SSDs (840 EVO). I will put my OS and the games I will be recording on there, and use the other one solely for the recording program. I have also found out that Dxtory is the best recording software.

On Dxtory, I've noticed, you can choose to record to three different hard drives at once, which supposedly boosts the recording speed 3x. Should I go with 3 1TB 7200RPM HDDs or keep my current configuration? Thanks.

I think you will be fine with your current config. You may want to bump that hard-drive up to a 2 or 3TB one since recording takes up lots of space. The only other thing I would add is a Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler so you can overclock your processor and get more power out of it. Otherwise great choices :)

Personally I would wait one the second SSD, try it with one SSD and the recording on the hdd. If its not sufficient then pick up the SSD. If its fast enough then grab another large drive (or one of the same capacity and pop them in raid 0)
