Looking at one of the Newegg sales right now, one can get 2 x HD 7970 3GB cards for less than the price of 1 x GTX 780 3GB card (lowest price 780). Almost $80 less!

Now, I realize the GTX 780 is a slightly faster card than the HD 7970, but when you can get 2 HD 7970s, and CF's m-s has been greatly improved w/13.10... it's tempting.

Thoughts?

As long as you have the psu for it I would say go right ahead with the two 7970's

As long as your PSU is above 800 Watts I say go for the dual 7970's.

U can also get 670 sli in $500(after rebate), which is similar to 7970. Crossfire have improved but i still see people complaining about it. Problem here is that 7970 have 3 gb vram compared to 2gb of 670. If u r using single 1080p then i think 670 sli is the best option.

Single card is always better in almost all cases except most important - perfomance.
If you have big case, good airflow, good PSU 7970 all the way because it will perform soo much better. Single 7970 beats 680 so 7970 Xfire beats 780 with ease too.

Thanks for all the replies. Yes, my system should have no issue with 2 x HD 7970s. (see my sig)
The performance would be outstanding w/2 x 7970s, but in the back of my head there's that little voice saying "remember... it's Crossfire with all its issues"

Good point about dual GTX 670s, but that wouldn't be enough of a step up over what I have now.

So, is AMD completely changing their entire gfx card naming protocol now? No more HD XXXX? Every time I see someone mention an AMD "2XX" card, it reminds me of the older Nvidia 200 series cards. LOL

(sorry, off topic)
